[Mp4-tech] find material for mode decisions in H.264

I have been looking at the encoder part of  source codes in  the H.264 test model JM13.2 for a while. Now I
tried to figure out the functions: encode_one_macroblock_high(), encode_one_macroblock_highfast() and 
 encode_one_macroblock_highloss() for the H.264 mode decisions. Because of the lack of adequate explanation
in the source code, it is hard to understand them. Could anybody post the related material or the links to them?
