Dear experts
In the H.264 standard apparently there is an misunderstanding concerning
intra_chroma_pred_mode.
On the one hand in 7.4.5.1 section is written:
intra_chroma_pred_mode specifies the type of spatial prediction used for
chroma in macroblocks using Intra_4x4 or Intra_16x16 prediction, as
shown in Table 7-16. The value of intra_chroma_pred_mode shall be in the
range of 0 to 3, inclusive.
>From the above clause one cand derive that intra_chroma_pred_mode is not
used for Intra8x8 MB types. On the other hand the flow-chart specified
in 7.3.5.1 reveals that intra_chroma_pred_mode is transmitted for all
Intra MBs (i.e. Intra4x4, Intra16x16 and Intra8x8).
I think an omission occured in the formulation of
intra_chroma_pred_mode, it should be
intra_chroma_pred_mode specifies the type of spatial prediction used
for chroma in macroblocks using Intra_4x4 or Intra_16x16 or Intra8x8
prediction
